I cherish our time together and love that I get to watch her be a “Grammy” to my little boy. Something that not everyone can say, and I know that now more as an adult than I did when I was younger. My mom selflessly serves our family and those around her, making sure that we are all happy, healthy and safe before considering her own needs or wishes. She selflessly took care of both of her parents faithfully while they were sick and ensured their wishes were met even after they passed away. Instead of going to bed, she would sit up and wait on us to get home. I know there were many times growing up that she made sure our needs were met instead of her own. My mom is selfless. In addition to working hard and being faithful to her family, my mom is selfless. The past 5 years have been rough on my mom between her cancer diagnosis and losing both of her parents. My mom? She carries it all herself if my dad isn’t home. Me? I wait until he’s home and ask my husband to carry the groceries up from the car.
After a major surgery and recovery, we are blessed to say that she is cancer free! During the cancer diagnosis and treatment period, she never said “I can’t do this” or “I’m not strong enough”. My mom is strong. Several years ago, I received the phone call no one wants to receive: my mom was diagnosed with cancer. As a work at home mom, I understand now just how hard she worked during those years! After we started school, she began working outside of the home as well and continues to work hard each day. When we were younger, my mom stayed at home with my brother and I. My mom is hard working. This goes back to being faithful. While often times we don’t appreciate those basic needs being met growing up, when we do grow up-we realize just how much work it takes to meet those needs! In addition to meeting her family’s needs faithfully, my mom is faithful in attending church and making sure that we understand the importance of a relationship with the Lord. My mom was faithful in not only working hard each day, but also making sure that her family was taken care of. Growing up, I can’t remember a time where I didn’t have lunch for school, didn’t have clean clothes or dinner to eat. Often we forget about being faithful to a family. When you think of faithfulness, most of us think of being faithful to a spouse. She’s loved me through every minute of it all. Bad days, good days, tragedy, milestones. I was hateful, rude and impatient at times (still am!).
When I think of unconditional love, I think of how my mom loved me through those difficult teenage years. First-I want to answer “what is a mom?”, more specifically-what my mom is to me. Until I became a mom, I never truly understood just what a mom is. If you had asked me 5 years ago “what is a mom”? I probably would have given you some generic answer about “she is the person who gave birth to me and who loves me unconditionally”. As always, I only work with brands I love.
